HOUSE IN AOBADAI
HOUSE IN AOBADAI is located in a neighborhood proximal to Daikanyama, a stylish, busy area of central Tokyo.
The house consists of two volumes: the northern wing is smaller and finished with a glass ceiling, while the southern wing is structured with exposed concrete and an opaque steel room. The transparent glass roof provides natural light down into the entrance hall, as well as the interiors through reflections across the house’s walls.
A wide garage on the ground floor houses four vehicles; the laundry is adjacently located to cater to the client’s generated laundry after a day of working on their cars. The same level contains all the private spaces of the house and their related utilities, whereas the living quarters are located on the upper floor. Two terraces are incorporated within the design to illuminate the interiors with natural light and foster generous ventilation. Further, the apertures of the building’s volume act as light wells - including the quiet rear terrace that brings light into the lower-story bedroom.
