VILLA MAN-BOW
Located about 100 kilometers west of Tokyo in Atami, Japan, the steep site of VILLA MAN-BOW slopes down into the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
The design of the villa takes into account the seasonal typhoons and oceanic winds, while emulating the circular foliage of the local trees. Bringing these two elements together, the house's design developed as an ellipsoid suspended above the surrounding trees, ensuring an unobstructed view of the ocean. The curved, smooth interior surfaces are painted white, to dissolve any hard edges of the space. The spacious living area is complemented by bedrooms and other residential spaces, all contained within a box-like volume on the back.
